Habitat Restoration Success Along Stevens Creek
September 2019
By Central Coast Wilds Team
Story by Ellen Uhler.
The Stevens Creek Corridor Park restoration project spans 60 acres of upland oak woodland and riparian forest in Cupertino and Mountain View, providing essential habitat for wildlife and a place for the community to connect with nature. Over multiple phases, we installed over 20,000 native trees, shrubs, and ground covers along the creek banks.
The project design included removing invasive species, grading bank contours to create more naturalistic channel shapes, and installing willow stakes and native riparian plantings to stabilize the banks. Years after planting, the corridor is now teeming with birds, butterflies, and native fish species.
